September 2020 Match of the Month

Congratulations to our Big Sister Allie Willmas and Little Sister Isabel for being selected as September’s Match of the Month! Every month, Big Brothers Big Sisters selects a “match” to be featured. This is a special recognition that is given to a different match each month in honor of the dedication the volunteer and a child have made to each other as well as the organization. To celebrate, Allie and Isabel were treated to free sandwiches courtesy of Subway.

Allie and Isabel have been matched since October of 2018 and have been building a beautiful friendship since. The two girls have enjoyed their time together by playing games, eating lunch together at Isabel’s school, reading books, playing outside, and doing different arts and crafts projects. Allie and Isabel have also been able to attend events hosted by Big Brothers Big Sisters such as a picnic at Red Arrow Park and riding horses at Crossfire Ranch.

Allie is an 18-year-old who will be attending UW-Green Bay for her freshman year of college. She currently works part-time as a waitress and likes to spend her free time by getting involved with student organizations as well as volunteering in the community. Outside of being a part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, Allie also gives time to the Association for the Developmentally Disabled Summer Camp. Some of Allie’s interests include reading, writing, and spending time with her family and close friends. Isabel will be going into the 5th grade this upcoming school year. She likes “Word Work” in school when she is able to complete spelling activities. For fun Isabel likes painting, drawing, coloring, and hanging out with her friends.

Allie explains that she wanted to become involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters because she is the youngest of three in her family. Being Isabel’s Big was a new experience for Allie, making her both nervous and excited in the beginning of the match. Allie points out that her nerves quickly went away once she met Isabel as she knew they would end up having a great relationship. As the girls were introduced through the School Based Program and Allie is now a recent high school graduate, the girls decided to continue their relationship by switching to the Community Based Program. Allie and Isabel are excited to go on more adventures together and are looking forward to all the memories they have left to make.

Allie and Isabel want to encourage others to get involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters. They both have gained new experiences from partition the organization as they continue making a positive impact on one another and the community. Big Brothers Big Sisters is dedicated to ensure each volunteer is paired with a child who has similar hobbies and interests. Being a “Big” takes only an hour a week but can have a lifetime impact.
