June 2020 Match of the Month
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Manitowoc County has named Big Brother Trevor Fiecko and Little Brother Quinton as the June match of the month. Every month, the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization selects a “match” to be featured. This is a special recognition that is given to a different match each month in honor of the dedication the volunteer and child have made to each other and to the organization. To celebrate, Trevor and Quinton were treated to free sandwiches courtesy of Subway.
Trevor and Quinton were matched as Big and Little in January of 2020 and have been building a strong friendship since. The two have been enjoying their time together by playing basketball, board games, talking and utilizing the app Game Pigeon. Recently, due to the Coronavirus, Trevor and Quinton have been limited to the chances they get to spend time together. However, the unexpected obstacle has not put a strain on their relationship. Trevor and Quinton have been able to maintain their bond during the Safer-at-Home order by FaceTiming multiple times a week and playing games online. For the future, the boys are looking forward to fishing and attending each others’ sporting events.
Trevor will be going into his senior year at Roncalli High School in the Fall of 2020. He enjoys helping his family in the garden or on the farm. He loves being able to spend time with his family by taking weekend trips up north. In Trevor’s free time he likes to play football, basketball and participate in track. Quinton is going into 4th grade this upcoming school year. Some of Quinton’s favorite parts of the school day include: math, recess and reading. Quinton’s interests include basketball, baseball, soccer and video games. Quinton explains that he is glad to be a part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and states, “I have gained another friend in my life that I can trust”.
Trevor and Quinton want to encourage others to get involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters. They have both gained new experiences from participating in the organization. They are making a positive impact on one another and their community. Big Brothers Big Sisters is dedicated to ensure each volunteer is paired with a child who has similar hobbies and interests. Trevor and Quinton have a meaningful relationship that has certainly impacted both of them forever. Being a ‘Big’ takes only an hour a week but can have a lifetime impact.
