July 2020 Match of the Month
Congratulations to Big Brother Chris Schnell and his Little Brother Jordan for being honored as this month's Match of the Month! Every month, Big Brothers Big Sisters selects a “match” to be featured. This is a special recognition that is given to a different match each month in honor of the dedication the volunteer and child have made to each other and to the organization. To celebrate, Chris and Jordan were treated to free sandwiches courtesy of Subway.
Chris and Jordan were matched as Big and Little in January of 2018 and have been building a strong friendship since. Jordan explained when he first met Chris, he got excited for the match because Chris was funny and liked sports, just like Jordan does. The two have been enjoying their time together by playing games, playing catch, doing different activities both in school and out, and spending time talking with each other. Some of their favorite times spent together was going to the Strand Adventures match event and playing laser tag and climbing the rock wall, going to watch the Timber Rattlers game and attending a Brewers Game where they were able to go out and throw the very first pitch of the game!
Chris’s job is in commerce and outside of work, Chris enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He serves on Big Brother’s Big Sisters board of directors and after having kids and participating in youth coaching, he knew he had to become a Big Brother. Chris explained this is a great opportunity to encourage youth in our community with a small time commitment that is very rewarding. Jordan is in seventh grade and really enjoys working on math and science related projects in school. He also likes to play football during his free time and is an active Atlanta Falcons fan! Jordan explained that a couple of his friends have Big Brothers and they have a lot of fun while their Big’s help them, just like Chris does! Jordan likes having another adult to talk to that is not a parent, teacher or grandparent.
Chris and Jordan want to encourage others to get involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters. They have both gained new experiences from participating in the organization as they continue making a positive impact on one another and their community. Big Brothers Big Sisters is dedicated to ensure each volunteer is paired with a child who has similar hobbies and interests. Being a ‘Big’ takes only an hour a week but can have a lifetime impact.
