August 2020 Match of the Month
Congratulations to our Big Sister Anne Hynek and her Little Sister Caitlyn for being selected as August’s Match of the Month! Every month, Big Brothers Big Sisters selects a “match” to be featured. This is a special recognition that is given to a different match each month in honor of the dedication the volunteer and child have made to each other as well as the organization. To celebrate, Anne and Caitlyn were treated to free sandwiches courtesy of Subway.
Anne and Caitlyn have been matched since March of 2015 and have been creating an unforgettable friendship since. The girls have spent their time together by enjoying many different types of activities. Anne and Caitlyn have enjoyed many simple activities like getting coffee, baking and watching movies. They also enjoy experiencing new things together like going to the renaissance fair and ziplining!
Anne owns and operates a local small business as well as tends to her hobby farm. Anne has three children, three stepchildren and three grandchildren. Anne pointed out that her match with Caitlyn has broadened her interests, allowed the girls to create a bond and gifted Anne with Caitlyn as another member of the family. Anne describes how Caitlyn has made her life much fuller, and being a Big has enriched her life in many ways. Her relationship with Caitlyn has been a true blessing.
Caitlyn is a recent high school graduate who will be attending the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay in the fall of 2020. One of Caitlyn’s hobbies includes dance and she has been a part of multiple different dance teams since a young age. Caitlyn shared that she has been matched with Anne throughout her teenage years, allowing Anne to be a part of her life through many changes. Anne has been there to support Caitlyn, answer endless questions and help prepare her to go out into the world.
Anne and Caitlyn want to encourage others to get involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters. They have both gained new experiences from participating in the organization as they continue making a positive impact on one another and the community. Big Brothers Big Sisters is dedicated to ensure each volunteer is paired with a child who has similar hobbies and interests. Being a ‘Big’ takes only an hour a week but can have a lifetime impact.
