April 2020 Match of the Month
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Manitowoc County has named Big Brother Leon LeClair and Little Brother Mark as match of the month for April. Every month, the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization selects a “match” to be featured. This recognition is given in honor of the commitment the volunteer and child have made to each other and to the organization in developing a special friendship. To celebrate, Leon and Mark were treated to free sandwiches courtesy of Subway.
Leon and Mark were matched as Big and Little in 2017 and have continued to grow their friendship ever since. They appreciate their time together by learning and enjoying activities such as fishing, swimming, geocaching, building models, attending match events, playing basketball and going out for ice cream. They are excited to have a summer camping trip and attend the Big Brothers Big Sisters fishing derby this year!
Leon is currently employed at Manitowoc Tool and Machine and is married to his wife Nancy. Leon has been involved with BBBS for 27 years, ever since joining in 1993! Mark is an 8th grader in Manitowoc. His hobbies include swimming and fishing. Leon has recently taken on the task of teaching Mark the importance of handling many responsibilities. Leon and Mark have enjoyed experiencing new activities with each other while exploring their interests more. Leon stated that this match helps keep him young! Mark loves being able to try activities he has not experienced before and having the ability to spend one-on-one time with his Big Brother.
Leon and Mark want to encourage others to get involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters. They both have gained new experiences from participating in the organization. They are making a positive impact on one another and their community. Big Brothers Big Sisters is dedicated to ensure each volunteer is paired with a child who has similar hobbies and interests. Leon and Mark have a meaningful relationship that has certainly impacted both of them forever. Being a ‘Big’ takes only an hour a week but can have a lifetime impact.
